Paris Saint-Germain’s historic 5–0 triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final came at a cost — and not just emotional for the Italians. The euphoric celebrations at Munich’s Allianz Arena left the pitch in tatters, and now PSG could face a heavy UEFA fine.
Chaos on the Turf
Following the final whistle, hundreds of jubilant PSG fans stormed the pitch. The result? A damaged goalpost, a torn net, and chunks of turf ripped up as souvenirs. A party for the fans — a nightmare for stadium officials.
Despite the chaos, the Allianz Arena staff wasted no time. An overnight emergency repair was launched using hybrid grass rolls to restore around 40 square meters near the goal areas. “This is routine for us. The pitch will be ready,” said Allianz Arena director Jürgen Muth.
Germany Concerned Ahead of Euro Preparations
Still, the damage has raised alarms. German national team goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen voiced his concerns after inspecting the turf:
“There are patches missing near the goals. It’s not ideal for footing, and there’s a real injury risk.”
With the European Championship around the corner, Germany’s coaching staff is worried about potential hazards during training and matches on that surface.
UEFA Not Amused
While gardeners are working overtime, UEFA is furious. The governing body is reportedly preparing a significant fine for PSG due to several infractions:
- Unauthorized pitch invasion
- Use of flares and smoke bombs
- A political banner displayed by fans
Despite the historic win, PSG’s celebration could come with a hefty post-match invoice.
