On the eve of the trip to Lyon, Luis Enrique presented himself with a surprisingly calm discourse despite the turmoil affecting PSG since the defeat against Bayern Munich.
Deprived of Hakimi, Dembélé, Nuno Mendes, and with a series of uncertain or fatigued players, the Parisian coach refuses to dramatize the situation. He reminds that injuries are part of football and states that there is “no urgency” for the winter transfer window, while assuring that he has “complete confidence” in the available players.
Luis Enrique believes that the reaction of his group after the setback against Bayern is positive. He says he has found a locker room that is affected but far from defeated, and assures that the difference between Paris and Munich was “very small.”
For him, the match against OL will be an opportunity to confirm the unity and collective strength of PSG. He adds that he enjoys facing this type of difficulty, which he considers stimulating for a high-level coach.
A fatigued squad, but players highlighted
When asked about the fatigue affecting several key players, Luis Enrique explains that there is “no high-level football without intensity” and that he must manage his squad like a “permanent Tetris.”
He reminds that the schedule after the break will be busy, with eight matches to play, which requires rotation. The coach also emphasizes the importance of the versatility of some young players, starting with Mayulu, who is capable of playing in several positions.
Luis Enrique also praised Warren Zaïre-Emery, whom he describes as a “leader” capable of playing anywhere on the field, and he mentioned Kang-In Lee’s 100th match, which he sees as a symbol of the player’s progress.
Regarding David Boly, he simply stated that he would be in the squad, while calling for patience regarding his situation. In the end, the Spaniard assures that PSG is well placed in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, and that there is “no reason to be worried” before facing Lyon.
