After Atlético Madrid’s brutal 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, Diego Simeone didn’t hide his frustration — and pointed fingers at PSG’s financial muscle.
In a scathing post-match press conference, the Argentine coach remarked: “PSG is a great young team. When Luis Enrique needed a left winger, they just dropped €70 million like that for Kvaratskhelia.”
It was a thinly veiled dig at the Qatari-funded club, though Simeone did add a compliment: “You also have to make them play — and they’ve always done that well.”
The loss underlined a growing gap between Atlético and the European elite. PSG, fluid and ruthless, dominated every aspect of the match and now look like clear favourites for the title. Simeone’s frustration, though sharp, echoed a deeper sense of powerlessness.
