Kylian Mbappé has spoken about the “karma” that seems to have worked in PSG’s favor. After years of chasing the Champions League without him, Paris finally lifted the trophy just after the striker’s move to Real Madrid.
PSG never managed to win the Champions League during Mbappé’s time at the club. Ironically, they claimed it the very season he left for Spain — a twist that made many supporters smile, calling it “karma.”
Speaking to L’Équipe Magazine, the French forward laughed off the situation: “It wasn’t in my favor (laughs)? Looked at quickly, you might think I’m damn unlucky. PSG kept getting stronger, always closer…”
40 shots, no goals
Mbappé also tried to explain the painful Dortmund elimination: “We lost while taking 40 shots (0-1, 0-1), hit the bar eight times… I still can’t explain how we didn’t go through. At PSG it was Luis Enrique’s second year, the squad stayed the same, with a great transfer window including Pacho. In La Liga, we also lost the title, but Barça had a great season. We missed chances in supposedly easier matches and ended three points short. When you look closely, there are a lot of explanations.”
For him, PSG had everything in place to succeed: a stable squad, smart reinforcements, and clear progress under Luis Enrique. But in Europe, as in Spain, missed chances ended up making the difference.
