In a press conference, Fabian Ruiz delivered a clear and honest message ahead of the clash at San Mamés. The PSG midfielder praised Vitinha, discussed his own form, swept aside the question of a contract extension, and emphasized the difficulty of facing Athletic Bilbao on their home turf.
Ruiz opened the conference by highlighting Vitinha’s contribution, both as a player and as a person: “He is very good on the pitch but also off it. He’s an exceptional guy… He’s always ready to help the team.” The Spanish midfielder also described a fluid relationship with Vitinha and João Neves: “I couldn’t say if it’s the best midfield in the world, but we have great players… Last year was very good, it’s a good start.”

Asked about his physical condition, Ruiz was reassuring following his adductor injury: “I feel good. I hope to be at my best.” He also dismissed the topic of a contract extension: “My contract runs until 2027… It’s not something that concerns me. I’m thinking about tomorrow’s match.”
On the eve of the trip to Bilbao, Ruiz insisted on the difficulty of the encounter: “We know it will be tough here at San Mamés… It’s one of the most beautiful stadiums in Spain.” He praised Athletic’s quality: “For them, these matches are important… They have fast players in one-on-one situations, they are aggressive.” The key message remains clear: “We’ll need a strong mindset… We must take the three points.”
Earlier, Luis Enrique had also highlighted the uniqueness of the Basque club: “It’s a club with a different history… You’ll see the connection between the fans and the players.” Ruiz concluded by reflecting on the past year: “2025 has been an incredible year… We want to finish it well.”
