According to Le Parisien, the management of injuries at PSG is evolving under the influence of Luis Enrique, as two key players remain highly uncertain for the match against Tottenham in the Champions League on November 26.
Luis Enrique is changing everything in response to the wave of injuries. PSG wants to react after the crazy series: Doué, Dembélé, Marquinhos, Kvara, Neves, Ruiz, Hakimi… More than 21 injuries this season in Paris. It’s too much.
Two very complicated cases are crystallizing internal concerns: Dembélé and Nuno Mendes. Ousmane Dembélé is suffering from a left calf injury.
Nuno Mendes, on the other hand, has been dealing with a knee sprain since the match against Bayern on November 4.
According to Le Parisien, Luis Enrique will therefore change everything in medical follow-up and training. One method will notably be reviewed: the famous “fourth phase” of recovery after injuries.
4 steps to return
Until now, PSG applied four steps:
• medical diagnosis,
• treatment,
• alternating treatment / return to the field,
• then crash test: intensive training for several consecutive days.
It is this last phase that Luis Enrique wants to modify. Players are normally expected to return at high intensity without relapse… but some, like Dembélé, lack confidence after each injury and play cautiously, which is incompatible with the pace of Ligue 1 and even less so with the Champions League.
Enrique wants more time for reintegrations
The idea: to extend the adaptation period before sending players back to the group, as was done with João Neves. Result: the Portuguese is shining after a late but gradual return (injured on September 17, returned on October 29).
Tottenham? Nearly impossible mission
To be present against the Spurs, Dembélé and Mendes would need to participate in all training sessions before then… or even play against Le Havre this weekend. A scenario that Le Parisien considers highly unlikely.
PSG will therefore likely have to face Tottenham without two key starters.
