Disappointment, regrets… Verratti opens up about Donnarumma and the Champions League

Marco Verratti, now in Qatar, has not lost his attachment to PSG. In an interview with Foot Mercato, the former master of the Parisian midfield reflected on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure and the European title of the capital club.

European champion with Paris in the spring, Gianluigi Donnarumma did not have time to savor the victory. Just a few weeks after winning the Champions League, the Italian goalkeeper headed to Manchester City.

Verratti, who is very close to him, recounts: “Donnarumma was a bit disappointed, which is normal. He had just won the Champions League while being one of the most important players of the season. He stepped up in the decisive matches. PSG won a lot thanks to him.”

The Italian believes that the goalkeeper’s departure was consistent with Luis Enrique’s philosophy: “He always wants to change, to show that no one is untouchable. But Donnarumma has landed well at City, in a new league that will help him grow even more.”

Verratti and the Champions League: no regrets, just pride

Contrary to what some might have imagined, Verratti has never harbored bitterness upon seeing PSG finally win the Champions League… without him. “I never thought that I didn’t want PSG to win it because I hadn’t won it. I am very close to all the people who have helped the club grow. It was a relief even for me.”

The little Owl remains faithful to his Parisian story: a lot of affection, no resentment… and always a watchful eye on the Old Lady of the Parc des Princes.
