The Luis Enrique version of PSG is built on a very clear idea: constant pressing, total possession… and no traditional No.9. Since taking over in 2023, the Spanish coach has experimented tactically, refining his system until he found the perfect formula. And in that setup, a pure striker like Erling Haaland simply doesn’t fit.
A player agent explained Enrique’s philosophy to L’Équipe: “He doesn’t want a No.9 like Haaland, because even if he’s exceptional, opponents know exactly what to expect. The constant movement and positional interchanges make it impossible for defenders to get their bearings.”

In this striker-less system, Ousmane Dembélé has become essential. Given the freedom to roam and create, he embodies Enrique’s vision to perfection.
The coach fully embraces this approach: “We have many players who can play that role — Ramos, Dembélé, Doué, Mayulu, Barcola, Lee… Even our full-backs can end up there depending on the situation. We’re happy to have so many options.”
In short, PSG don’t want a Haaland — they want ten Dembélés. A fluid, unpredictable collective where everyone moves, presses and creates. That’s the Luis Enrique way — and anyone who can’t keep up risks being left behind.
