PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz will be sidelined longer than expected after suffering a left knee injury. The Spanish international picked up a sprain during his return to individual training and will miss the upcoming clash against Chelsea, while Ousmane Dembélé is nearing a return to competition.
It is a setback for Fabian Ruiz. The Paris midfielder sustained the sprain while resuming individual sessions. He had already been out since late January after taking a knock during the match against Sporting Portugal and had been following a gradual recovery program.
PSG Faces Midfield Blow Ahead of Chelsea Clash
This new pain forced the PSG medical staff to revise the player’s recovery schedule and implement a new treatment protocol. As a result, his return to action has been delayed.
The immediate consequence is that Fabian Ruiz will miss the first leg against Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16. His absence complicates PSG’s plans, as the club had hoped to rely on him to provide midfield rotation during this decisive stretch of the season.
At the same time, there is positive news for the Parisian side with the likely return of Ousmane Dembélé. The French winger, who has been dealing with a calf issue for around ten days and missed the last three matches, is expected to rejoin the squad for Friday’s game against Monaco and could get a few minutes to regain match fitness ahead of the European showdown.
