Matveï Safonov may finally have his moment: he is expected to be the starter against Rennes. Internally, many believe this has been written for a long time. With Lucas Chevalier injured, it’s Safonov’s time. The Russian has been putting pressure through the media in recent weeks. And privately, he does not hide it: he imagined playing much more after Donnarumma’s departure. Given his qualities, it’s hard to argue against him.

One question remains: would his future necessarily go through Paris? The club continues to take its time… perhaps to allow Marin, who is highly regarded internally, to gain momentum. For now, Safonov is in the driver’s seat. It’s up to him to prove that his place… is number one. He will have one match to do it. It will be complicated, but Luis Enrique will be watching closely.
