Since leaving Lyon in 2023, Laurent Blanc had kept a low profile. But now, the former PSG coach is speaking out — and he has plenty to say about his old club.
In an interview with SPORT, the current Al Ittihad manager (Saudi champions with Benzema, Kanté, Aouar and Diaby) gave his honest thoughts on PSG’s Champions League triumph — and had high praise for Luis Enrique’s leadership.
“Many believed Paris would never win the Champions League, even with Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé. I always told them: if they keep investing smartly, it’ll eventually pay off,” said the ex-PSG boss. “And it might not be over. They can win it again. They’ve realized the importance of having a top-level coach.”
Luis Enrique: demanding and visionary
Blanc didn’t hold back his admiration for Luis Enrique: “He’s extremely demanding, especially with his players. When we played together at Barça, he could do everything. And now, he promotes a game based on possession, movement, and intent — a vision of football I fully share.”
From one former Barça man to another, respect is clearly mutual. And from Blanc’s point of view, PSG may only be getting started.
