Brilliant once again in PSG’s 7-2 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen, Nuno Mendes reminded everyone why many consider him the best left-back in the world. Scoring a goal and dominating his flank, the 23-year-old Portuguese left a huge mark on the game.
But despite the flood of praise, Mendes remains grounded. “It’s always nice to hear that, so thank you. I just try to give my best on the pitch, do what I know how to do, and help the team. My teammates help me a lot too, and I think we’re on the right path,” he told Canal+.
Always humble, Mendes prefers to highlight the team effort rather than personal glory. And that collective strength was on full display in Germany — a powerful statement from PSG after two disappointing Ligue 1 draws (1-1 vs Lille, 3-3 vs Strasbourg).
A tough year ahead, focus required
“A message with this kind of performance? Yes, we know this year will be even tougher because there are so many strong teams. We played well, even though we finished with ten men. We just have to keep going,” Mendes added.
With nine points from three games, PSG sit comfortably atop their group, showing real momentum under Luis Enrique. And if Nuno Mendes keeps playing at this level, he won’t just be one of the best in his position — he’ll be one of PSG’s deadliest weapons in their quest for another Champions League crown.
