Luis Enrique did not hide his satisfaction after PSG’s 5–2 victory against Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, while also taking the opportunity to respond to media criticism. During the press conference, the Paris coach first joked about the reasons behind the win: “The keys? We scored three more goals than the opponent,” he said with a smile.
The Spanish manager then addressed the doubts often raised about his team’s physical condition, a criticism he considers overly simplistic. “Today, nobody is talking about physical capacity (laughs). When we lose, people say it’s physical or mental problems. Yesterday we supposedly had physical issues, and today we score three goals in the last 10 minutes,” he noted.
Luis Enrique responds to criticism about PSG’s young squad
Luis Enrique also took the opportunity to remind observers that a team’s performance cannot be reduced to a single explanation. “It’s multifactorial, I’ve said it before. Just like last year, when you told me it was impossible to win with such a young team,” he explained.
“These are clichés,” the Spanish coach concluded, clearly pleased to see his players provide their response on the pitch.
