Kylian Mbappé greeted his former PSG teammates at Clairefontaine with smiles, handshakes and congratulations — at least in front of the cameras.
The French captain welcomed Ousmane Dembélé, Lucas Hernandez, and Désiré Doué, all freshly crowned Champions League winners. Warren Zaïre-Emery and Bradley Barcola also received warm words from Mbappé. But observers couldn’t help but notice a certain tension behind the formalities — the kind of smile that doesn’t quite reach the eyes.
PSG will “Never win the Champions League”… Until They Did
It’s a scene loaded with irony. Just months ago, Mbappé openly stated that PSG would never win the Champions League, a statement that aged poorly as his ex-teammates lifted the trophy with a dominant 5–0 victory over Inter Milan.
Now, with the Final Four of the Nations League and Euro 2024 around the corner, unity in the French camp is the top priority. But Mbappé’s icy congratulations are a reminder: while trophies can be shared, so can the spotlight — and that’s not always easy when you’re no longer in it.
For Mbappé, it’s back to business with Les Bleus… but with a bit more to prove.
