Monaco vs PSG: Press Player Ratings, harsh on Chevalier

On Saturday at the Stade Louis-II, Paris Saint-Germain lost 1-0 to Monaco during the 14th round of Ligue 1. As often happens after a poor performance by Paris, the media ratings differ, sometimes significantly.

This match in Monaco was tough. The Parisian players were clearly fatigued. Luis Enrique opted for few changes after the match against Tottenham, and it showed. Despite some big opportunities, particularly from Kang In Lee, PSG generally fell short. Here is a complete overview of the ratings from Le Parisien and L’Équipe, along with an analysis of the discrepancies.

The attack, a radically different perspective

Le Parisien is somewhat more lenient with Kvaratskhelia, giving him 4.5 compared to 3 in L’Équipe. Both newspapers agree on Lee (4), but diverge on Mayulu: 3.5 for Le Parisien, 3 for L’Équipe. L’Équipe judges the PSG’s nonexistent offensive impact much more harshly, while Le Parisien acknowledges some intentions but without effectiveness.

A midfield rated oppositely

This is where the gap is most pronounced. Ruiz: 3.5 for Le Parisien, but 5 for L’Équipe. Neves: 4 in Le Parisien, only 3 in L’Équipe. Vitinha: 5.5 for Le Parisien, 6 for L’Équipe. L’Équipe believes Ruiz handled the pressing better and that Vitinha was one of the few Parisians performing at a high level. Le Parisien, on the other hand, emphasizes the slowness of the midfield and collective ball losses. Regarding Neves, L’Équipe penalizes him more for his lack of impact in the holding role.

The defense, between leniency and severity

Pacho is the perfect example: 4.5 in Le Parisien, but a harsh 3 in L’Équipe. Marquinhos receives 5 in Le Parisien, compared to 4 in L’Équipe. Le Parisien highlights their important interventions despite the lack of collective control, while L’Équipe points out their mistakes in build-up play and nervousness under pressure.

Chevalier, the only true consensus

5.5 for Le Parisien, 5 for L’Équipe. Both media outlets acknowledge his good match and several decisive saves, while noting that he was not exceptional in some build-up plays. Nevertheless, the player, who suffered a serious ankle injury, remained on the field; perhaps that deserved a bit more…

The coach: only L’Équipe rates Luis Enrique

With a score of 3 out of 10, L’Équipe clearly penalizes the disorganized game plan, questionable offensive choices, and PSG’s inability to react. Le Parisien, on the other hand, does not rate the coach this weekend.

Both newspapers agree on one thing: PSG missed out on their match. However, L’Équipe is generally much harsher, giving several very low ratings, particularly to Pacho, Neves, and Kvaratskhelia. Le Parisien, while not lenient, nuances the individual performances more.
