Who will win Ligue 1 this season? Opta has released its projections for the 2026-2027 campaign. Unsurprisingly, the statistical model predicts Paris Saint-Germain will once again be crowned French champions.
Another title for PSG? That is the prediction from renowned data specialists Opta. Behind Paris, however, there are a few surprises. RC Lens are projected to finish second, ahead of Lille and Lyon, while Marseille would only take sixth place.
Lens tipped to challenge PSG as Marseille fall behind
According to the projection, Lens would enjoy an outstanding season and finish runners-up to PSG. It is an eye-catching prediction just days after their 1-0 victory over Paris in the Trophée des Champions. Lille would complete the podium, with Lyon fourth and Monaco fifth. The battle for European places therefore looks set to be particularly tight, while Marseille are only forecast to finish sixth, followed by Rennes, Strasbourg, Brest and Toulouse.
Another major surprise is Nice, who are predicted to finish just 14th and well outside the European places. Paris FC would take 11th, ahead of Lorient and Auxerre, while Troyes and Le Havre would finish 15th and 16th respectively. Le Mans and Angers are projected to occupy the bottom two positions. Opta’s predicted table is: 1. PSG, 2. RC Lens, 3. Lille, 4. Lyon, 5. Monaco, 6. Marseille, 7. Rennes, 8. Strasbourg, 9. Brest, 10. Toulouse, 11. Paris FC, 12. Lorient, 13. Auxerre, 14. Nice, 15. Troyes, 16. Le Havre, 17. Le Mans, 18. Angers.
PSG therefore remain the overwhelming favourites to retain their crown. Behind them, though, Opta expects a hierarchy that differs significantly from what many might anticipate, with Lens emerging as Paris’ closest challengers and Marseille pushed down to sixth. Of course, this remains a statistical projection, and the final verdict will come on the pitch.
