PSG/Chelsea: Dembélé Subbed Off, Luis Enrique Explains

Starting against Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, Ousmane Dembélé made an impressive return from injury. The French winger played a major role in PSG’s 5-2 victory at the Parc des Princes, scoring a superb goal before leaving the pitch in the second half.

Replaced in the 69th minute by Kang-in Lee, the French international was simply being protected by Luis Enrique, who wants to carefully manage his playing time after his return. “The difficulty with players coming back from injury is always giving them the right number of minutes to improve their condition. We discussed it to assess how he was feeling,” the Paris coach explained during a press conference.

Careful Management After Injury

The Spanish manager also expressed satisfaction with his player’s performance. “He played very well, he did what he normally does. That’s very good news for us,” he added.

Luis Enrique now hopes he can rely on Dembélé for the rest of the competition, especially for the second leg in London. “With players returning from injury, you have to give them the exact number of minutes to keep improving. Ousmane played very well. It’s very good news. We expect him in London for a very important match.”
