PSG Drops in UEFA Rankings Despite Champions League Glory

Champions League and PSG

It’s the twist no one expected: even after winning their first-ever Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain has dropped in the UEFA club rankings.

Updated this Tuesday, the official UEFA coefficient now places PSG 5th in Europe, behind Real Madrid (new No.1), Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool. Yes — Europe’s reigning champions are not even in the top four.

Why the drop?

UEFA’s ranking system is based on performance over the last five seasons. And unfortunately for PSG, their 2020 final appearance — a loss to Bayern — has now dropped out of the five-year window. That change alone cost the club key coefficient points, outweighing the recent Champions League title haul.

So, while lifting the trophy in Munich cemented PSG’s place in history, it wasn’t enough to boost them up the ladder statistically.

Mixed results for French clubs

Elsewhere in the French football landscape, Lille (31st) and Marseille (45th) held firm in the rankings. The real surprise? Stade Brestois, who entered the UEFA top 110 for the first time ever, landing at 108th.

It’s a reminder: European glory is sweet, but UEFA math is ruthless.
