Beaten by Senegal (1-0) in the AFCON final last Sunday, Achraf Hakimi’s Morocco came home empty-handed. The PSG right-back rejoined his teammates in Paris on Wednesday evening, but did not immediately return to full team training.
Back in the squad but still being managed? Suffering from a minor knock, the Paris vice-captain had been given a rest and did not take part in the match against Auxerre.
A cautious comeback ahead of the Champions League
Since his return, Hakimi has been following a gradual recovery plan, alternating gym work with sessions on the pitch. According to Le Parisien, Luis Enrique took the time to talk with him to assess both his physical and mental condition after the disappointment with the national team.
Good news for PSG: the Moroccan should be included in the squad for the Champions League clash against Newcastle. However, there is little chance he will start the match, as the Spanish coach prefers to manage his return carefully, especially with Warren Zaïre-Emery performing well on the right flank and providing a credible alternative while waiting for the star to be back at 100%.
