PSG dominated, shot, insisted… but left San Mamés with a frustrating 0-0 draw. Unai Simon frustrated the Parisians and denied the first direct qualification ball. Luis Enrique, however, refuses to talk about frustration.
PSG leaves Bilbao without qualification for the Round of 16 in the Champions League. That was the objective. Luis Enrique believes his team “worked well,” that they managed to “overcome the Basque pressing,” but admits that “Simon was the man of the match.” Paris will need to “earn even more points” to aim for the top 8.
“An ugly result” despite a crazy atmosphere
While he praised the “incredible” atmosphere, Enrique does not hide his disappointment: “The worst thing tonight is the result. It’s an ugly result.” Enrique says he is “very optimistic” for the second half of the season and assures that Marquinhos’ injury “does not seem serious,” pending further examinations.
Barcola, the attack, and the transfer market
The coach defends his attackers: “The five showed their level. We had many chances. It’s not a lack of efficiency.” About the transfer market? A smile: “We are open to everything.”
He concludes with a tribute to Unai Simon. “I told him: you played your best match against me!” Enrique said, admiring his former goalkeeper.
