PSG: Luis Enrique Shuts Down the Dembélé Ballon d’Or Hype

Luis Enrique has never been one for outside noise — and he proved it again. On the eve of PSG’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen, the Spanish coach firmly shut down the buzz surrounding Ousmane Dembélé, freshly crowned Ballon d’Or winner.

Back from injury, the 28-year-old winger (3 games, 2 goals in Ligue 1 this season) is attracting plenty of attention. But for his coach, that award already belongs to the past.

“You see things differently. It’s not the Ballon d’Or — it’s Ousmane Dembélé,” said Luis Enrique on Canal+. “What matters most for the team is the person and his energy, not who the last Ballon d’Or is. The Ballon d’Or is over. We have to work to win the next matches. You value that, but it brings nothing.”

The Spaniard doubled down on his message: focus on the collective, not the individual accolades.
“For us, it’s important to get back players like Marquinhos, Désiré Doué, and Ousmane Dembélé… but I’m happier about his energy, the person he is, than about the Ballon d’Or. The Ballon d’Or is over.”

A blunt reality check from Luis Enrique, determined to keep his squad grounded and focused. But with a Ballon d’Or winner in the dressing room, the spotlight on Dembélé is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
