PSG Summoned by League Authorities Over Supporter Misconduct

PSG has been summoned by the French Professional Football League following the Classique: possible sanctions could be imposed after insulting chants and banners displayed by Ultras supporters. A new challenge is emerging for Paris Saint-Germain. Despite their crushing victory in the Classique, the Parisian club will have to explain itself before the disciplinary commission of the Professional Football League. The issue concerns chants and banners deemed problematic during the match against Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

A procedure has been opened under the “stadium policing” regulations. PSG is summoned on Wednesday, February 18, to present its defense and observations regarding the incidents reported in the stands.

Disciplinary Procedure After Controversial Match Atmosphere

Details of the summons were reported: “On Wednesday evening, the Professional Football League (LFP) announced that PSG would be called before the disciplinary commission on Wednesday, February 18, following the incidents that occurred during the Classique against OM on Sunday at the Parc des Princes. During the match, which PSG won convincingly (5–0), several chants and banners considered problematic were launched and displayed in the Paris stands. As provided for by stadium policing regulations, the commission has therefore decided to open disciplinary proceedings to examine the facts. The capital club will have to present its observations at the hearing. Depending on the commission’s conclusions, PSG faces sanctions ranging from a fine to a partial stand closure.”

The risk is real: according to the disciplinary scale, penalties can range from a financial fine to the partial closure of a stand. A verdict is expected after the hearing, with a tense aftermath behind the scenes for Paris.
