The injury to Achraf Hakimi has left all of PSG in shock. Victim of a severe ankle sprain after an extremely dangerous tackle from Luis Diaz, the Parisian defender had to leave the pitch at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night. The Bayern player, on the other hand, saw red. Literally. But not for everyone.
The expulsion during PSG – Bayern is still being discussed: Toni Kroos comes to the defense of Luis Diaz and reignites the controversy. Invited to the podcast Einfach mal Luppen, the former Real Madrid player took a stance… and not in favor of PSG. For the German legend, the expulsion of Luis Diaz is nothing more than a refereeing error.
Kroos Changes the Mood: “It Wasn’t a Red Card”
“For me, it’s clear: it wasn’t a red card. The referee judged based on Hakimi’s injury, not on the action. If Hakimi had gotten up, no one would have reviewed the tackle.”
This statement is unlikely to please Paris, especially given the footage: a tackle from behind, feet off the ground, ankle twisting, and a Hakimi who will suffer for several weeks…
A Painful Gesture for PSG, but Not for Kroos
Diaz had already scored a brace before ruining the Parisian evening. His expulsion did not prevent Bayern from leaving with the victory… but it left a PSG in a staffing crisis, decimated on both sides. Kroos, however, refuses to see the danger of the gesture. And he throws a little jab at the referees: judging the consequence rather than the intention.
“If Hakimi had gotten up after the contact, no one would have reviewed the action. In such situations, the referee must judge the action itself, not its consequences,” said Toni Kroos. PSG will take note.
