On Monday at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain suffered a huge shock as they were beaten by Paris FC (0–1) in the Round of 32 of the French Cup. The elimination was cruel given PSG’s overall dominance, but ultimately logical because of their attacking inefficiency, something clearly reflected in the ratings handed out by the media.
In goal, Lucas Chevalier was not spared, receiving a 4 from both Le Parisien and L’Équipe, while VIPSG were slightly kinder with a 5. Rarely tested, the goalkeeper was beaten by the only shot on target he faced, without being considered the main culprit.
Zaïre-Emery Stands Out in a Flat PSG Display
In defense, Warren Zaïre-Emery was the clear exception in an otherwise dull unit. Rated 6 by Le Parisien and L’Équipe and even 6.5 by VIPSG, he was one of the few to truly inject energy into PSG’s play and even hit the crossbar. Opinions differed sharply on Illia Zabarnyi, who received low marks in the daily papers but a much better one from VIPSG for his solidity and late threat from set pieces, while Beraldo and Pacho earned more average, mixed assessments.
In midfield, the verdict was harsh. Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha saw a lot of the ball without really speeding up the game, while young Mayulu was the most heavily criticized by the press despite a slightly more forgiving view from VIPSG, which highlighted a few promising sequences amid too many mistakes.
Up front, inefficiency was once again the main accusation. Bradley Barcola and Gonçalo Ramos were active and created chances but lacked composure in front of goal, leading to modest ratings from the newspapers and higher ones from VIPSG, while Kvaratskhelia received average marks after an uneven performance. The substitutes failed to change the course of the match, Luis Enrique was also marked down, and overall these ratings perfectly illustrate a dominant PSG undone by a severe lack of cutting edge.
