The Russian national team has decided to release Matvey Safonov after the draw against Peru (1-1). The PSG goalkeeper, already questioned in Russia due to his limited playing time in Paris, will therefore not participate in the upcoming match against Chile.
Safonov sent back to Paris after a complicated match with Russia. Coach Valeri Karpin was clear: if the match against Peru had been a simple friendly, Safonov would likely not have even been a starter. After this performance, he confirmed that the goalkeeper would return immediately to Paris.
Safonov Wanted to ReplaceChevalier
In Russia, Safonov is being criticized, particularly for the goal conceded from a long-range shot by Alex Valera. This new criticism will not help his already fragile situation, whether in the national team… or at PSG.
The Russian goalkeeper has been putting pressure on PSG in recent days, claiming he deserves more playing time, especially as Lucas Chevalier shows signs of weakness. But evidently, the Russian national team also seems to doubt him…
