Paris Saint-Germain is enjoying a weekend without matches before its Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Chelsea. The break offers players an opportunity to reset and address internal matters within the squad.
Although PSG is not playing, the team is far from resting. The Parisian club requested the postponement of its match against Nantes in order to better prepare for the European clash, a practice previously used to support French clubs competing in European competitions, as Ligue 1 reminded. This weekend’s schedule is therefore focused on work and preparation.
Internal tensions despite PSG’s strong European position
Despite a convincing 5–2 victory in the first leg, recent weeks have not been entirely smooth for the Parisians, who suffered defeats against Rennes and Monaco in the league.
According to L’Équipe, some tensions have also emerged inside the locker room. While the group remains generally united, Marquinhos is playing a key role in maintaining cohesion at a time when certain senior figures are not unanimously supported.
The Brazilian captain is fully embracing his leadership responsibilities during this crucial period. PSG has regained some confidence with its three-goal advantage, but internal criticism continues to circulate, as has been the case for several weeks. After Ousmane Dembélé publicly voiced concerns, the squad held discussions and Luis Enrique also questioned a few senior players, with Kvara notably starting on the bench against Chelsea. Whether PSG will rediscover its rhythm ahead of the decisive Champions League stages will be answered on Tuesday night.
