Karim Benzema congratulated his French successor to the Ballon d’Or. Crowned in 2022, the former Real Madrid striker has now seen Ousmane Dembélé receive the same honor after a sensational season with Paris Saint-Germain.
Ousmane Dembélé has gone from a mocked player to one who is adored and respected. No one saw it coming. A transformation praised by Benzema himself. In an interview with L’Équipe, KB9 congratulated his former France teammate, even admitting that he no longer truly believed in it after Dembélé’s mixed spell at FC Barcelona.
Benzema Praises an Unprecedented Season at PSG
It is strong recognition coming from a Ballon d’Or winner for a player who has clearly reached a new level. “Ousmane Dembélé, we’re talking about a guy who won the Ballon d’Or. And we don’t talk about it enough, in my opinion. What he did at PSG is something never seen before. I think we don’t give him enough credit. Because he’s actually the best player in the world,” Benzema said.
“We don’t highlight enough the season he just had. He’s come a long way. He had a lot of injuries, his time at Barça… He wasn’t necessarily the guy you’d say one day, ‘Maybe he’ll win the Ballon d’Or.’ He was far from that. But in the end, he proved everyone wrong. So I really like this player.”
