On the eve of PSG’s clash with Bayer Leverkusen, Luis Enrique delivered a confident and transparent press conference. From managing his key players and trusting his young talents to discussing the team psychologist and the pressure of Europe, the Spanish coach made one thing clear: PSG is united, built to last, and hungry to win.
On team psychologist Joaquin Valdés
“He’s the only person who has worked with me throughout my entire career. He knows perfectly well the highs and lows players go through. It’s not common to have a psychologist on staff, but for me, it’s a very good thing.”
On managing Nuno Mendes physically
“Nuno is a different player — a defender but also an attacker. I need to manage his playing time, just like Hakimi or Vitinha, to have them in top form when it really matters.”
On Leverkusen’s strength
“It’s hard to evaluate them — they’ve signed 20 players and a new coach. They can do everything: defend deep, press high, score goals. We’ll have to handle it all. Every match requires different answers.”
On PSG’s young players and early struggles
“We’ve integrated a lot of young players who’ve shown quality. The start of the season was difficult; we had to overcome unexpected challenges. But we’ve shown resilience. Tomorrow, we need points — and fast. We want to win, not overthink.”
On goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier and the criticism
“I’m very happy with Lucas Chevalier. He has personality. You criticized Donnarumma for years — at PSG, a goalkeeper has to learn to live with that. Chevalier will be very important for many years.”
On Willian Pacho
“We signed him because we knew him well. He’s very young but already very strong defensively. He can still improve — he has the mentality we like.”
On Fabian Ruiz and João Neves
“We’ll see with the medical team, but we have good news with several players returning.”
On Ousmane Dembélé
“It’s Ousmane Dembélé — not just the Ballon d’Or winner. We’re very happy to have Dembélé, Marquinhos, and Désiré Doué back. Training sensations will tell the rest.”
On the importance of winning quickly
“Our group is tough. Tomorrow will be a big test for both teams. We’ve won our first two matches, but this one will be different.”
