The white card will soon be tested on football fields to sanction a player for 10 minutes, similar to rugby’s sin bin.
Revolution in football. The International Football Association Board (IFAB), which governs the rules of football, has given its approval for the experimentation of a new rule: the temporary expulsion for 10 minutes.
This rule will be applied in well-defined situations, especially during protests against the referee or tactical fouls aimed at stopping an opponent’s counter-attack.
Mark Bullingham, CEO of IFAB, explains that the goal is to “improve player behavior on the field” without issuing a direct red card.
