In Paris, they thought they had a nice deal: to acquire Eric Garcia for free starting in January, without spending a euro. But the situation has taken a huge turn… and not in PSG’s favor.
Catalan defender Eric Garcia is having his best season since returning to Barça. Naturally, this caught PSG’s interest as they seek defensive reinforcements following numerous injuries.
Having become one of Hansi Flick’s trusted players, Garcia has played in all official matches this season, often as a starter, sometimes filling in on the right, in midfield, or even on the left. Even better: he is simply the most utilized player at Barça (1,211 minutes, ahead of Rashford and Frenkie de Jong).
And naturally, this changes everything.
While several clubs, including PSG, hoped to benefit from the player’s contract ending in June, Barça has locked in its priority: to extend his contract as soon as possible. According to information from Spain and AS, discussions between his agent Iván De la Peña and Deco are progressing quickly.
The Catalan club aims to finalize the agreement before 2026 to prevent him from negotiating freely. A new contract until 2029, potentially 2030, is already on the table.
The response from the Garcia camp to foreign approaches, including PSG, is now clear: they are only thinking about staying blaugrana.
For Paris, which dreamed of a low-cost defensive reinforcement this winter, this is a real cold shock. The “Eric Garcia for free” operation seems to be evaporating… while Barça is preparing to secure one of its new key players.
