Italian World Cup champion Gennaro Gattuso has been named the new coach of Olympique de Marseille (OM).

Just days after OM’s debacle against PSG, interim coach Jacques Abardonado is already out. Gennaro Gattuso replaces Marcelino, who resigned following a tense meeting between the fans and club management.

“I am very happy and proud to join Olympique de Marseille,” says Gennaro Gattuso, as quoted in the club’s statement. “I can’t wait to get to work with my new team and take on the challenges that lie ahead.”

Gennaro Gattuso was among the names mentioned to take over PSG last summer. However, Luis Enrique was ultimately chosen for the role.
