Luis Enrique did not wait long to put the topic back on the table—prompted by journalists. After the frustrating draw against Athletic Bilbao (0-0) in the Champions League, the PSG coach clearly reopened the door to the winter transfer window. The message is crystal clear: Paris could recruit.
Already very explicit right after the match at San Mamés, the Spanish coach confirmed his stance two days later. Yes, PSG is open to arrivals. Yes, reinforcements are being considered. And no, this is not a smokescreen. With an injury-hit squad and a demanding season, Luis Enrique wants additional solutions.
A cautious but open approach to the winter transfer window
“I am not changing anything I said. I am open as usual, we have a very good sporting director who analyzes the possibilities. What I always want is the same thing. There are injuries, we trust the academy players, but it is not easy to sign a player for us during this transfer window,” said Luis Enrique.
The Parisian coach trusts the youth players but also acknowledges the limits of the current squad. As a result, PSG could use January to fine-tune its roster without falling into the madness of huge spending. The line is clear: strengthen, but do it smartly.
“If you know some very interesting and cheaper players, I’m open to listening. We analyze everything and we know where we want to go. Of course we will look, that’s normal, but we are confident in what we are doing and we are open,” explained Luis Enrique. The winter transfer window therefore promises to be busier than expected in Paris, and the sporting situation could push the club’s leaders to act.
