Paul Pogba’s career could have taken a very different path. According to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain had been tracking the French midfielder long before he exploded onto the highest stage.
In 2012, as Pogba’s contract with Manchester United was coming to an end, Leonardo, then PSG’s sporting director, had already identified his immense potential. However, Juventus moved faster and successfully signed him on a free transfer during the summer of 2012.
PSG’s Repeated Interest in Paul Pogba
The Parisian club continued to monitor his situation over the years. In 2016, when he made his record-breaking return to Manchester United, and again in 2022 before his second spell at Juventus, his name circulated internally within the club.
In the meantime, PSG’s strategy had evolved. Growing tired of a star-at-all-costs policy, the Parisian management ultimately decided not to pursue the Pogba option any further.
