The truce didn’t last long. Botafogo owner John Textor couldn’t resist taunting PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi after his team’s surprise 1-0 win over the European champions in the Club World Cup.
The two men had recently toned things down following a tense Ligue 1 club meeting, during which Al-Khelaïfi reportedly called Textor a “hostile cowboy.” But Friday night in Pasadena, the American businessman had the last word—at least for now.
“The cowboy won”
After Igor Jesus’ goal sealed a historic win for Botafogo, the Brazilian club posted a cheeky photo of Textor wearing a cowboy hat with the caption:
“Just a cowboy chasing the American dream.”
“The American dream! We guess the cowboy won…”
It was a pointed reference to Al-Khelaïfi’s jab and a bold flex after a major upset. While the football world may quickly move on, this moment won’t be forgotten by John Textor.
