It sounds like a movie script — but it actually happened. In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marco Verratti shared the story of one unforgettable night in the summer of 2021 that changed PSG history forever.
The former Paris midfielder, now at Al Duhail in Qatar, recalled an impromptu dinner in Ibiza with Neymar, Di Maria, Leandro Paredes… and none other than Lionel Messi.
“We were in Ibiza, Neymar told me we’d have dinner with Leo. It felt surreal. We had a fantastic evening, and we kind of nudged him to come to Paris,” Verratti said.

What started as a casual night among friends quickly turned into something much bigger. “The next day, Neymar called me and said: ‘Marco, Leo’s joining us.’ Incredible. The night before, he was at our table — the next, he was our teammate.”
Just days later, Messi officially left FC Barcelona and signed with PSG — a historic transfer kickstarted by a magical evening. For Verratti, that dinner will forever be one of the most iconic moments of his PSG journey.
