Under fire after his mistake against Strasbourg, Lucas Chevalier has received strong backing from Luis Enrique. In his press conference, the PSG coach came to his young goalkeeper’s defense, reminding everyone of the unique pressure that comes with wearing the gloves in Paris.
Despite a shaky start and a costly error in Ligue 1, the Spaniard has no doubts about his No.1 choice.
“I’m very happy with Lucas Chevalier. For me, he’s one of the best options — maybe even the best option,” said Luis Enrique. “He has personality, and he shows it both in training and in matches.”
The coach also recalled a familiar example for PSG fans — Gianluigi Donnarumma, once heavily criticized during his early years in Paris.
“Do you remember how many years you spent criticizing Donnarumma? You killed him, sportingly. At PSG, a goalkeeper has to learn to live with that.”
Chevalier built to handle the pressure
For Luis Enrique, Chevalier has the mental strength to weather the storm.
“We recruit for the long term. He’ll be very important for the team for many years. When I watch his performances, I see exactly what I want to see — and for me, that’s enough.”
The message couldn’t be clearer: no panic, no doubt. Luis Enrique wants to build confidence, not fear — and Lucas Chevalier, despite his mistakes, remains his man in goal.
