Is PSG less intimidating? Luis Enrique clarifies things after a rocky start to the season.
PSG, the European champion, has a status that is difficult to maintain. Held to a draw by Lorient (1-1), Paris remains at the top of the league… but no one is talking about a dominant and untouchable PSG anymore. With 6 victories in 10 matches, some see this as a sign of weakness. Luis Enrique, however, dismisses the idea.
“You think we’re less intimidating? From what I see, with how all the teams are fortifying against us, I feel like we are being respected,” the Spaniard remarked, slightly irritated. He does acknowledge, however: Paris did not deserve better on Wednesday. “Kudos to Lorient, they defended very well. We need to stay focused for 90 minutes; it’s essential to win this kind of match. I warned that it would be difficult, but no one believed me.”
The injury list has disrupted the momentum
PSG is also less intimidating… because it has been decimated in recent weeks: Dembélé, Neves, Ruiz, Barcola, Doué, Kvara, Vitinha, Marquinhos… almost all the starters have gone through the infirmary. Some have returned, others are still out, and Doué is going back. Nothing is simple for Luis Enrique this season.
The Spanish coach has not fielded his best team even once in months. Once the infirmary is cleared, will the European champion get back on track? Paris is moving forward… but it no longer instills fear in quite the same way.
