Achraf Hakimi back by the end of December? Morocco’s coach Walid Regragui is unfazed. Hakimi will be at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) “no matter what,” he assures.
PSG should appreciate this… Morocco is putting immense pressure on the return of their beloved player. Injured by Luis Diaz, Hakimi is suffering from a serious sprain, and PSG has announced several weeks of recovery. However, Morocco has another goal: an AFCON that starts at the end of December on their home soil.
To reassure, Walid Regragui quickly extinguished the fire: Hakimi will indeed be at the AFCON. Period. “I will be clear: we will do everything to ensure Achraf is at 100% against Comoros. And even if he can’t, he will be there. Of course, he will be present; he is our leader,” the coach emphasized at the press conference.
“If there is a player who can return quickly, it is Achraf Hakimi,” Walid Regragui assured at the press conference. “We have one of the best medical staffs in the world, just like PSG. Our doctor went to Paris yesterday. Achraf will be with us for the AFCON, whether on the field or in the locker room. He will only play if he is at 100%.”
On the field or on the sidelines, Hakimi will be there.
But he tries to reassure PSG: “We have very good relations. They are managing Hakimi perfectly.” In the meantime, Morocco is already preparing plan B: Noussair Mazraoui is expected to occupy the right flank if the Parisian is not recovered for the first match against Comoros on December 21.
The AFCON is approaching, Hakimi is racing against time, and Morocco is holding its breath, but one certainty remains: the captain will be there. On the field… or as a soldier in the locker room.
