The match between Paris Saint-Germain (2-3) and Olympique Lyonnais was at the center of a debrief by the Refereeing Authority. However, OL, which has strongly criticized the officiating, will not like the conclusions.
In response to L’Équipe, Amaury Delerue, who heads this body, reviewed several contentious actions. Regarding the supposed handball by Illia Zabarnyi in the penalty area, the head of Ligue 1 referees claims that no camera angle allows for a definitive conclusion that the Parisian defender committed a foul. Therefore, according to him, it was impossible to award a penalty in the absence of clear evidence of contact.
“No image clearly shows that the decision not to award a penalty is certainly wrong, and therefore whether Zabarnyi touched the ball or not,” he said.
No penalty for OL
On the intervention by Vitinha on Tanner Tessmann, just before the goal by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Delerue acknowledges that it was an “extremely complicated” action. The authority could not reach a unanimous position and refers to a real “gray area,” which is why VAR validated the initial decision.
Finally, the duel between Kang-in Lee and Nicolás Tagliafico also did not warrant a penalty for Lyon. Delerue believes that Lee’s action constitutes a natural contact, not violating the laws of the game and not hindering Tagliafico in his intervention.
