This Thursday at the Parc des Princes, the French team is playing much more than just a match. Ten years to the day after the attacks of November 13, the Blues return to a pitch filled with emotion… with a ticket for the 2026 World Cup within reach. Or it could slip through their fingers.
Leading Group D with 10 points, France knows that everything can be decided in 90 minutes. A victory, and qualification for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico is secured. Simple, direct, relentless.
But Ukraine, second with 7 points, has no intention of being walked over. If the Blues stumble, everything is back on the table. Even a draw could push the verdict to the last match against Azerbaijan. And a loss? Not eliminatory… but immediately much more concerning.
Fortunately, France has several exit strategies
– Win tonight: immediate qualification.
– Draw, then not lose on Sunday: qualification confirmed.
– Lose tonight, win on Sunday, and finish with a better goal difference than Ukraine: qualification secured.
The Blues could very well be at the World Cup as early as tonight… or find themselves under pressure in three days. An evening of suspense, in a heavy atmosphere, where nothing is yet decided.
