Hugo Ekitike was one of the biggest failures of Parisian recruitment. Bought for a hefty price, around €40M, the player never established himself in Paris. However, he still maintains a positive outlook on his time at PSG.
Arriving in 2022 from Reims, Hugo Ekitike never managed to assert himself against strong offensive competition. But for him, this step was essential.
In an interview with L’Équipe, the current striker for Liverpool and the French national team explains that Paris helped him grow: “My time at PSG was necessary. I worked a lot on and off the pitch. I gained maturity.”
Sold to Liverpool… €91M
His loan to Frankfurt then accelerated his progress: 26 goals in 64 matches, a record that opened the doors to Liverpool, ready to invest €91M to sign him.
At Paris, Ekitike scored only 4 goals in 33 appearances, but this period laid the groundwork for his rise. Today, at 22 years old, he aims for the World Cup after scoring his first goal for the national team against Ukraine. From Parisian flop to rising star: Ekitike takes it all in stride… and moves forward.
