In the spotlight between his legal battle with PSG and his getaway to Dubai when he was supposed to be recovering in Madrid, Mbappé remains at the center of the storm. Leonardo goes back to 2022: “Qatar gave up everything to keep him, and I didn’t agree.” For him, that’s when PSG lost control.
Leonardo denies Mbappé “got him fired,” but admits the club’s new direction pushed him out: “He renewed, decisions were made, and I didn’t agree. I had already said no before, so once he extended, I couldn’t stay. Between me and Qatar, there’s no issue. Did Mbappé have my head? I don’t know, but in that situation, continuing was impossible. With the conditions we had, maybe they felt I had to leave. PSG and I simply had different visions.”

No personal clash with Doha, he says—just a deep disagreement on strategy. Even his relationship with Mbappé’s entourage deteriorated: “We had good moments, but in the end it was harder because we no longer agreed on the contract situation.”
