PSG. Is Bradley Barcola being punished by Luis Enrique?

Bradley Barcola is going through a difficult spell at PSG. Subbed off after just 56 minutes against Tottenham, the winger didn’t play a single minute against Monaco… even though Luis Enrique was dealing with a full-blown injury crisis.

Mayulu, Ndjantou and Mbaye all featured in attacking roles — positions where Barcola would normally be expected to appear. His absence didn’t go unnoticed, and the questions quickly followed.

According to Le Parisien, Luis Enrique’s frustration has nothing to do with Barcola’s attacking output. The problem lies elsewhere: his lack of defensive tracking. The Spaniard was reportedly furious about the first goal conceded against Tottenham, blaming Barcola for not working hard enough off the ball.

“Scoring goals is only part of an attacker’s job”

“Proof that his stats aren’t what concerns the staff: it’s his defensive lapses that annoyed Luis Enrique against Tottenham, especially on Spurs’ first goal. At PSG, scoring goals is only a part of an attacker’s job,” explains Dominique Sévérac of Le Parisien.

Behind the scenes, the staff still believes in Barcola’s potential. But with the squad almost fully competitive again and a coach who demands everything to the millimeter, the message is crystal clear: certain attitudes won’t fly anymore.

If he wants to avoid this warning turning into a real exclusion, the former Lyon winger will need to quickly get back on track.
