PSG were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes and have dropped out of the top eight.
Paris let their chance slip away and will have to go through the playoffs once again. Despite an ideal start and Vitinha’s opening goal, PSG once more lacked efficiency, symbolized by Ousmane Dembélé’s missed penalty.
A Costly Missed Opportunity at the Parc des Princes
Dominant but imprecise, Luis Enrique’s men were pegged back by Newcastle just before halftime and never managed to make the difference afterward, despite several chances and a few scares at the back.
This 1-1 draw, combined with unfavorable results elsewhere, knocks PSG out of the top eight. As last season, Paris have made their Champions League path more complicated and must take a risky detour through the playoffs, with the feeling that they were above all punished for their own shortcomings.
