Luis Enrique justified his decision after Ousmane Dembélé’s injury, as the forward was forced off in the 27th minute during PSG’s 3–2 win away to Monaco in the first leg of their Champions League playoff.

Despite a leg warning during training, the Parisian attacker Ousmane Dembélé was included in the starting lineup before being substituted, reigniting the debate over risk management.

Coach responds to criticism over player risk management

Speaking at a press conference, the Paris coach defended how Dembélé’s situation was handled. “It’s football — we try to manage every player individually. I didn’t take any risks; he trained normally yesterday. We’ll have to wait for the tests tomorrow to know the exact nature of the injury because he took a knock in the first 15 minutes. We’re trying to handle this in the best possible way,” he explained.

The Paris staff is now waiting for medical examinations to determine the precise nature of the injury. It is a tense moment, with PSG set to play the return leg next week.
