Renato Marin continues to shake up the hierarchy at PSG. Once again very solid during the 1-0 win against Brest on Sunday night, the 19-year-old Italian goalkeeper confirmed that he is far more than just an emergency solution for Luis Enrique at the end of the season.
PSG completely reshuffled its goalkeeping hierarchy this season. Safonov is now the number one, Chevalier dropped to second choice, and he could have played two matches before the end of the campaign… but he got injured. Renato Marin seized the opportunity. Already impressive against Lorient a few days earlier, the young Paris goalkeeper produced several key saves against Brest and continues to impress with his composure, passing ability and personality despite his young age.
Renato Marin Emerging as PSG’s Future No. 2
According to L’Équipe, Renato Marin’s performances could now have a real impact on PSG’s plans for next season. Internally, the Italian goalkeeper is reportedly viewed as a very complete profile with huge room for improvement.
The situation of Lucas Chevalier is also raising questions. Relegated behind Matvey Safonov for several months, the French goalkeeper may struggle to accept a long-term backup role at the Parisian club. In this context, a Chevalier departure is no longer completely ruled out, while Renato Marin is now emerging as a credible option to become PSG’s number two next season behind Safonov.
At just 19 years old, the Italian goalkeeper is making the most of the opportunities given to him by Luis Enrique and already seems to have earned many points internally ahead of the next summer transfer window.
