Lucas Chevalier has made his decision. While his future at Paris Saint-Germain still seemed uncertain in recent days, the French goalkeeper has reportedly decided to stay in the capital. According to Canal+ journalist Olivier Tallaron, the former Lille player had several important discussions with Luis Enrique and was reassured about his situation.
Chevalier joined PSG with the ambition of establishing himself at a club competing for every trophy, but he is coming off a difficult period. Last season, he lost his starting place in Paris, as well as his status as France’s number 2 goalkeeper for the World Cup. That was enough to make him think seriously about the next step in his career.
Chevalier Determined to Fight for PSG’s Starting Spot
But the trend is now clear: Lucas Chevalier wants to give himself a chance to become PSG’s number 1 again. According to Olivier Tallaron of Canal+, the goalkeeper held lengthy talks with Luis Enrique on several occasions. Those exchanges reportedly helped ease his doubts and convinced him to continue his Paris adventure.

This decision therefore puts a stop to the departure rumours. In recent days, several clubs had asked about his situation. Monaco, Rennes and Celtic Glasgow had notably been mentioned as possible destinations. But no project really seemed to offer the same sporting guarantees as PSG, especially in the Champions League.
Lucas Chevalier knows, however, that nothing will be handed to him. Competition remains strong in Paris, particularly with Matvey Safonov, and the battle for the starting spot looks set to be intense. But the French goalkeeper appears ready to take on the challenge rather than leave in search of playing time elsewhere. Unless there is a major turnaround, he will stay at PSG this summer, with the aim of proving he can establish himself at the highest level over the long term.
