Paris Saint-Germain suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against RCD Mallorca in their first pre-season friendly of the summer. With a much-changed team featuring several young starters, the Parisians lacked sharpness, accuracy and, above all, defensive solidity. Here are the ratings for the players selected by Luis Enrique.
Matvey Safonov: 4.5/10
The Russian goalkeeper was let down by his defence for both first-half goals. He could do little against Luvumbo before being beaten following Zabarnyi’s mistake for the second. A performance without any major error, but without a decisive save either.
David Boly: 4/10
He struggled badly against the pace and movement of Mallorca’s attackers. He worked hard but was too often beaten down his flank.
Illia Zabarnyi: 3/10
A difficult first outing. The Ukrainian defender was directly involved in the second goal, with a failed intervention that allowed Virgili a clear path to the net. He looked hesitant in his decision-making and was far from reassuring in the duels.
Axel Koukaba: 4/10
The young defender tried to remain composed in possession but lacked authority against Mallorca’s attacks. It was a difficult performance in a PSG block that was far too easily pulled apart.
Dimitri Lucea: 3.5/10
Caught out in behind for Luvumbo’s opening goal, he endured a difficult evening. He showed determination, but his defensive positioning regularly caused problems.
Mayulu and Mbaye Among PSG’s Few Bright Spots
Lucas Beraldo: 4.5/10
Used in an advanced role, the Brazilian tried to organise PSG’s play but was unable to significantly increase the tempo of the passing. He occasionally brought composure, but had too little impact in the duels.
Senny Mayulu: 5.5/10
Captain for the opening friendly, Mayulu was one of PSG’s most active players. Available between the lines and generally tidy technically, he tried to inject pace into an overly static team. However, he struggled to make an impact near the opposition penalty area.
Dro Fernandez: 4.5/10
There were a few interesting touches, but he created too few differences. The young midfielder struggled against Mallorca’s intensity and often operated too far away from goal.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia: 5/10
The Georgian was understandably the most eagerly awaited player in such a youthful starting XI. He tried to take players on and assume responsibility, but lacked support and never truly managed to change the course of the match.
Quentin Ndjantou: 4/10
A quiet performance. Rarely found in dangerous areas, he was unable to exploit the few spaces left by Mallorca. He lacked presence and precision in the final third.
Ibrahim Mbaye: 6/10
PSG’s most dangerous player in the first half. His powerful effort against the crossbar could have completely changed the course of the game. Direct and adventurous, he was one of the only players capable of causing problems for the Spanish defence.
Substitutes: Not Rated
Introduced at half-time, Lucas Chevalier conceded the third goal from a corner and received little help from an extremely passive defence. The other substitutions were unable to reverse the momentum of a match that was already largely beyond PSG’s reach.
