PSG: A Special Program to Prepare for the UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain are not taking the UEFA Super Cup lightly. Despite a disrupted summer preparation and a heavy defeat against Mallorca, the Parisian club wants to arrive in the best possible condition to compete for the trophy. PSG have no intention of giving up on the Super Cup and are determined to win it, but that will require the return of several key starters.

According to PSG insider Djamel, Luis Enrique’s staff have prepared an individual training program for the internationals who are still on vacation. The goal is to help them maintain a sufficient level of fitness and quickly regain the rhythm of collective training as soon as they return to the PSG Campus.

Physical and Technical Work Away From Paris

The players concerned must follow an intensive program including physical exercises as well as sessions with the ball. The coaching staff want to limit the loss of sharpness and prevent the internationals from returning completely short of match fitness. Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and João Neves could notably return before the UEFA Super Cup, although Luis Enrique will have to assess whether they are ready to start or only feature from the bench.

The opening pre-season match against Mallorca highlighted the difficulties of a PSG side missing most of its internationals. Paris suffered a 3-0 defeat after a performance marked by defensive mistakes, a lack of rhythm and limited attacking threat. Luis Enrique fielded a very young team supported by only a handful of established first-team players. The result has not caused major concern inside the club, but it reinforced the importance of getting the senior players back as quickly as possible.

PSG therefore hope to field a significantly more competitive side in the UEFA Super Cup. Even if all the internationals are unlikely to be ready to play the full match, the presence of Dembélé, Hakimi, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and João Neves would considerably strengthen the team. Paris are treating the first trophy of the season as a genuine objective, with the staff doing everything possible to reduce the impact of this unusual preparation and help the players return to their best level quickly.
