Paris Saint-Germain suffered their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season. Beaten 2-1 by AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes, the Parisian club had largely dominated the first half before being turned over after the break. It was a difficult scenario for Luis Enrique to accept.
However, the PSG coach refused to blame his players after the match. On the contrary, the Spaniard believes Paris’ performance should have been enough to secure all three points.
Luis Enrique: “We Clearly Deserved to Win”
“I’m happy with what I saw. It’s the start of the season, and we’re not quite in our element yet, but I saw a lot of positive things,” Luis Enrique told Ligue 1+. The Paris coach went even further: “Today, we clearly deserved to win!” To support his analysis, Luis Enrique notably pointed to the expected goals figures, with PSG finishing on 2.18 xG compared to just 0.52 for Monaco.

Despite that statistical dominance, Paris allowed Monaco back into the game before the visitors took the lead in the second half. Luis Enrique, however, refused to blame PSG’s physical condition: “A physical problem? No, considering our performance, no.” The Spanish coach then summed up his frustration: “Sometimes football is inexplicable and you have to accept it. Today, it’s an inexplicable result.”
It is an assessment that is likely to spark debate, with PSG still without a single victory after three Ligue 1 matches.
